Wolves condemn Liverpool to their ninth league loss of the season

Wolverhampton Wanderers scored a stoppage-time winner to defeat Liverpool 2-1 in their English Premier League (EPL) encounter at the Molineux Stadium on Tuesday night.
All three goals were scored in the last 12 minutes of the encounter. Andre grabbed the winner for Wolves after Mohamed Salah had cancelled Rodrigo Gomes’ opener.
The tie pitted the basement club against the soon-to-be-deposed EPL champions, and it was the relegation-threatened club who came up tops with an unlikely win.
Liverpool dominated the encounter but failed to create clear-cut chances. The Reds fell behind in the 78th minute when Nigeria’s Tolu Arokodare sent Rodrigo Gomis through, and the winger lifted a clipped finish to put Wolves 1-0 ahead with 12 minutes to go.
Arne Slot’s side produced an immediate response through Salah, the veteran Egyptian striker equalised five minutes later with a solo finish to the bottom corner after intercepting a pass at the back.
Both sides went for the winner, and it was Wolves who got the luck of the deflection, with Andre’s effort from 20 yards hitting Joe Gomez before nestling into the net to seal an unlikely win four minutes into added time.
Victory is Wolves’ second consecutive league win, and their third overall league victory of the season, with Rob Edwards’ side up to 16 points, three away from 19th-placed Burnley. Liverpool, on the other hand, suffered a first loss in four matches but remains in fifth place. The defeat is also Liverpool’s ninth overall in the league this season.
