Youth Day: Lagos to celebrate youths for six days
The Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development has said the 2023 International Youth Day will be celebrated with a week-long set of activities.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Mrs Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu stated this recently at the Government Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.
She revealed that activities were meant to celebrate youths in the state as the administration of Governor Babajide -Olu attached great importance to youths.
She said, “The six days programme to mark the Year 2023 International Youth Day with the theme, “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World,” will commence on Monday, 7th August, 2023 with a Business Amplifier Clinic.”
Other activities outlined for the celebration included awareness walk/environmental clean up slated for Tuesday, 8th August, 2023 while Wednesday, 9th-12th August, 2023 will witness Business Fair/Exhibition For Young Entrepreneurs.
On Thursday, 10th August 2023, there will be an Entrepreneurship Seminar/Business Plan Pitch/Contest.
On Friday, 11th August 2023, an Emerging Youth Award Ceremony will be organised by NYCN (Lagos State Chapter).
The Grand Finale Seminar will be held on Saturday, 2th August 2023.
Oke-Osanyintolu emphasised that it was the determination of the government give over 10 million youths in the state more opportunities and resources to maximize their skills and potentials as provided for in the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda with the addition of “Youth Engagement” and “Social Inclusion”.
The International Youth Day was first observed by the UN on 12 August, 2000 to draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youths with the aim of proffering solutions to them.
