Eight-year-old Pupil beaten into coma in Anambra dies
Eight-year-old pupil, Henry Chukwuemeka Okonkwo, who was beaten into coma by a teacher in Anambra State has passed away.
Recall that the 30-year-old teacher, Faith Nwonye, was arrested for the act, while the state commissioner for Education, Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, said the illegal school had been shut down.
She had added, “We’ve handed the matter to the police for further investigations, as we await Mr Governor’s directives. Meanwhile, the school is closed down indefinitely because it’s not supposed to exist in the first instance. Any parent who is enrolling his/her child in an illegal school is doing so at his/her own peril.
“Whether the school is legal or not, it’s criminal to beat a child. According to the doctor, the chances of survival of the child is 20%.”
However, the passage of the child was confirmed by the Commissioner for Education, Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, on Thursday, May 23.
She posted on social media, “He was a boy…like any other, with hopes and aspirations. He went to school for a better future but met gruesome death at the hands of the people who were supposed to help him achieve his life ambition.
“A quack teacher in an illegal school bludgeoned him to death. We mourn a life nipped in the bud! We mourn Henry Chukwuemeka Okonkwo! We mourn and we seek justice.!”
