A Nigerian Navy officer, Lieutenant A.M Yerima, who clashed with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike last week, has reportedly survived an attempted assassination in Abuja.

Vanguard reports that sources claimed that the officer was trailed on Sunday by unidentified men dressed in black and travelling in two unmarked Hilux vans with no number plates.

The vehicles allegedly followed him from the NIPCO Filling Station, off the Line Expressway, to Gado Nasco Way.

Noticing the surveillance, Yerima was said to have executed a “strategic manoeuvre”, enabling him to evade the suspected assailants. The incident occurred around 6.30pm and has since been escalated to military authorities.

The sources confirmed that the matter is already under investigation and is being handled with “the seriousness it deserves,” adding that further details are being withheld to avoid compromising the process.

Recall that there was a confrontation between Yerima and the FCT Minister at a disputed land site in Gaduwa District, an incident captured on video and widely circulated online

The altercation drew public outrage and led to presidential intervention halting the demolition exercise linked to the dispute.
