Joseph Aloba, Mohbad’s father, has reiterated that a DNA test must be conducted to determine the paternity of Liam, the child of the late singer.

Aloba took to his Instagram page on Friday to claim that before his son’s death on September 12, 2023, Mohbad had confided in him about instances of infidelity by his partner Omowunmi.

He alleged that Mohbad accused Omowunmi of drugging his food to make him sleep, after which she would allegedly meet with another man.

According to him, it was this alleged infidelity that caused Mohbad to call off plans for a formal wedding, as the couple had only undergone an introduction ceremony.

“I saw Wunmi with my son, and she said she was pregnant. As a responsible Yoruba man, I felt it was time for me to know the family of the lady I have been seeing my son with. I told my son, and he reluctantly obeyed,” he said.

“I was in shock when I got to the event, and I saw that they had already sewn my own attire for me.

“My son then promised that he would do a proper wedding ceremony with her after she delivered her baby.

A few months after she had delivered the baby, my son told me he would not marry Omowunmi because he caught her sleeping with another man.

“He told me he also caught his wife putting pills inside noodles for him to sleep off, and she went to another man’s room to have sex. He told me it was the other man’s girlfriend who caught them and came to tell him.”

Mohbad’s death, which occurred after an injection administered by an auxiliary nurse, sparked a national outcry.

He was initially buried the following day, but his body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy as part of the police investigation.

The investigation hit a significant roadblock in May 2024 when pathologists revealed the cause of death could not be determined due to the body’s advanced decomposition.

Throughout this period, Aloba has maintained a firm stance: a DNA test must be conducted to prove Liam’s paternity before his son can be reburied.

His efforts culminated in a September ruling from a magistrate’s court in Ikorodu, Lagos, which granted his request and ordered the test to be carried out at a government-approved facility.

However, the path to the test has been fraught with accusations.

In October, Omowunmi alleged that, despite securing the court order, Aloba was actively working to frustrate and manipulate the DNA process.

The dispute reached a new level of formality when Mohbad’s family recently issued a statement formally prohibiting Omowunmi from using their surname until the court-ordered DNA test confirms Liam’s paternity.
