‘She refined me’ — Kamo State speaks on working with Funke Akindele

Kamo State, the Nigerian skit maker, has opened up about the influence of actress Funke Akindele on his transition from skit-making to acting.

The skit maker described his relationship with Funke Akindele as a divine blessing, saying it has been a major turning point in his career.

He disclosed that, aside from giving him opportunities, she has also guided and shaped his growth in the industry.

He added that she goes beyond being a boss, noting that she genuinely supports his development and often pushes him to improve for his own good.

“Meeting Aunty Funke is something I have never taken for granted. She didn’t just give me opportunities, she refined me, corrected me and showed me what excellence truly means in this industry,” he said.

“She is more than a boss to me because she genuinely wants to see you grow. There are moments she even pushes me beyond limits, but I always know it’s for my own good.”

Born Akinyoola Ayoola, Kamo began his career in the entertainment industry as a skit maker, gaining attention for his humorous portrayal of a dramatic police officer.

However, in recent years, he has transitioned into acting, featuring in several films and recently earning recognition as one of Nollywood’s highest-grossing actors for his roles in nine cinema releases.

The films include ‘Ginger’, ‘Warlord’, ‘Behind The Scenes’, ‘Abanisete’, ‘Adunni’, ‘EverybodyLoves Jenifa’, and ‘Labake Olododo’.
