There are indications that a former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, may defect from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) next week.
The Kwankwansiyya movement said the action will reshape Nigeria’s opposition landscape.
The movement spokesperson, The planned defection, Habibu Mohammed, who said the move could happen as early as next week, the former governor supporters unanimously endorsed the action.
Mohammed added that negotiations with the NDC are already at an advanced stage, with only minor details left to be concluded before the formal announcement.
He further revealed that Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, is also expected to join the new political platform alongside Kwankwaso.
He said, “Kwankwaso, alongside Peter Obi, is expected to formally join the NDC on Monday or Tuesday. Several other political figures will follow suit.”
Kwankwaso is currently in Kano but is expected to return to Abuja in preparation for the anticipated defection.
