Ongoing reforms in Taskforce’ll boost professionalism, safety – Akerele

Ebun Emmanuel – May 4,2026
The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce) has reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, transparency and public trust following a series of strategic reforms aimed at repositioning the agency to meet modern enforcement standards.
Chairman of the Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, explained that the agency streamlined its activities in line with directives from the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Fatai Tijan, issued on April 1, 2026.
“This has enabled the agency to refocus its mandate on maintaining environmental sanity and strengthening internal discipline, while supporting broader efforts to sustain peace and order across Lagos State,” he said.
He added that the agency’s current operations are now centred on environmental enforcement and the removal of criminal elements, including miscreants, street urchins which is popularly known as “Omotaku” and drug addicts.
“This strategic shift reflects a deliberate effort to enhance efficiency, reduce friction with road users and deliver a more citizen-friendly approach to enforcement,” the Chairman said.
Akerele noted that the ongoing reforms are designed to rebuild public confidence, improve operational conduct and ensure that all enforcement activities are carried out with utmost professionalism.
The Taskforce also reiterated its commitment to working collaboratively with other security and regulatory agencies to ensure a safe, orderly and liveable environment for all Lagosians.
Members of the public are encouraged to report suspicious activities, particularly unauthorised individuals posing as enforcement officers, as the agency maintains a zero-tolerance stance against illegality and impersonation.
The Lagos State Taskforce remains steadfast in its mission to support government’s vision of a cleaner, safer and more organized Lagos through a disciplined, transparent and people-oriented approach. (Source: TMnews)
