Ebun Emmanuel – May 4,2026
The Ogun State chapter of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) it is considering offering serving and former members of the National Assembly, as well as current and former state lawmakers automatic tickets to contest under the APM platform in 2027.
It said the move is part of its plan to “rescue” and reclaim the state’s political future.
The party’s state chairman, Sanyaolu Abayomi, at a press conference in Abeokuta on Monday, said the party is positioning itself as a credible alternative to “political invaders” currently dominating the state.
Abayomi said, “Serving and former members of the National Assembly, as well as current and former state lawmakers, may be offered automatic tickets to contest under the APM platform in 2027, where applicable.
“The move aligns with preparations for the 2027 elections under Nigeria’s amended Electoral Act. APM seeks to inspire both political actors and voters with “renewed hope.”
He expressed concern that Ogun State, home to prominent figures such as Obafemi Awolowo, MKO Abiola, Ernest Shonekan, Olusegun Obasanjo, and Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka, is experiencing a decline in political leadership quality.
“It is saddening that a state so richly blessed with visionary leaders is now facing avoidable political challenges,” he said.
The APM chairman called on indigenes and residents of Ogun State to join the party in what he described as a collective effort to prevent “political destruction and jeopardy.”
The party also announced incentives aimed at attracting experienced politicians.
