About six persons have been killed, while eight others were injured after a commercial vehicle ran over an explosive device along the Bagega-Anka road in Zamfara State.

The incident occurred on Thursday in Anka Local Government Area when a Volkswagen Golf car conveying passengers from Bagega to Anka triggered the blast.

It was gathered that six passengers died instantly following the explosion.

According to the source, emergency responders later arrived at the scene of the incident.

The injured victims, including a woman, her child and six other male passengers, were taken to the Primary Healthcare Centre in Bagega for medical treatment.

A resident of Bagega, whose brother was among those injured, said the family received information about the explosion from a soldier.

“When I reached the hospital, I learnt that it was a bomb planted by bandits on the road,” the resident said.

The witness requested anonymity due to security concerns.

Spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, Yazid Abubakar, did not respond to calls and messages seeking official confirmation at the time of filing this report.
