The abducted Bishop of Jebba Diocese, Anglican Communion, Rt Reverend Adeyinka Aderogba, his wife and their driver have been released after spending 48 hours in the den of the kidnappers.
The Diocese of Osun Anglican Communion disclosed this on its Twitter handle on Tuesday evening, adding that they have being taken to the hospital for medical attention.
“Praise be to God. Bishop Adeyinka Aderogba, his wife and driver released from the den of kidnappers after 48 hours.
“They are being taken to the hospital for medical attention,” the tweet read.
There was, however, no report on whether ransom was paid before the release of the bishop, his wife and the driver.
Confirming their release, the Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Adewale Osifeso, in a statement, said the abducted Bishop, his wife and their driver regained freedom around 6.20pm on Tuesday.
Recall that the clergyman in the company of his wife and driver were abducted on Sunday around 9pm after their vehicle developed mechanical fault while travelling from Yewa,Ogun State to Jebba, Kwara State along the new Oyo/Ogbomoso Expressway.
“The massive deployment of police personnel for the operation to rescue the victims and the domination of the entire area by the police tactical team pressurised the abductors in freeing the victims.
“Investigation is ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous crime and bring them to justice,” the Police PPRO said.
