A former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has stepped down for Governor Dapo Abiodun over the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Ogun East Senatorial District.

It was gathered that the development followed the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Sources said the decision for Daniel to step down was reached during a high-stakes, closed-door meeting between President Tinubu and Senator Daniel.

According to sources, Tinubu equally assured Daniel of better plans in his cabinet, if he wins his second term bid.

The former governor’s supporters are saying that Daniel’s next political office suggests a ministerial role.
