Death toll in Kano building collapse rises to two, eight rescued

The number of the persons that died after the collapse of the three-storey building at Beirut GSM Market in Kano State on Tuesday has risen to two.

 

The Kano State branch of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, said on Wednesday that another person died at hospital from the nine victims so far rescued alive.

 

The Secretary of the branch, Musa Abdullah, who announced the death, recalled that a staff member of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company had lost his life in the disaster.

 

He said, “A worker with the Kano Electricity Distribution Company, who was trying to disconnect the building from the high tension lost his live on the spot.”

 

The National Emergency Management Agency also confirmed the death of the one person died from the eight rescued victims that were taken to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.

 

In a statement the Head, NEMA Press Unit in Abuja, Manzo Ezekiel, the agency said, “As of 9.10pm on Tuesday, eight persons were rescued and taken to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital.

 

“Sadly, one of them was confirmed dead by doctors at the hospital. Six others with minor injuries were treated and discharged.”

 

Also, a statement by the Kano Fire Service Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi, listed the names of the victims as Naziru Abdulkadir, Magaji Abubakar, Abdurauf Muhammad and Minjibir Ibrahim.

 

Others names were given as Ahmad  Haruna, Sadiq Haruna, Abdurashid Basiru and Danladi Lawan.
