The founder of Roots Television, Dumebi Kachikwu, has won the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress.

He defeated a former presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party, Kingsley Moghalu and Chukwuka Monye to win the ticket.

He polled 977 votes and was announced the winner, while Moghalu, his closest rival, got 589 votes.

Monye came third with 339 votes.

Before the commencement of voting, Moghalu had said he would defeat Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election.

He said, “I am here to offer myself to you not because I am better than anybody here but because I care about the future of our country. I offer myself because God has given me the main recognition to stand side-by-side with Atiku, Tinubu and to send them into retirement.”

The former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria joined the ADC in October 2021.

He was the presidential candidate of YPP in the 2019 elections and resigned his membership of the party in October 2019.
