The Federal Government has said it will explore legal options available to it as the court restores Senator Ifeanyi Araraume as the non-executive Chairman of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited.

President Muhammadu Buhari had withdrawn Araraume’s appointment in a January 17, 2022 letter. He was appointed on September 2021.

The president, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said he had taken judicial notice of court’s verdict, and promised that nothing would be done outside the rule of law.

It reads, “President Muhammadu Buhari has taken due notice of Federal High Court judgment which restored Senator Ifeanyi Araraume as the non-executive Chairman of NNPCL.

“While the Office of the Attorney-General/Minister for Justice is yet to receive a formal copy of the ruling, the president affirms that due judicial process will be followed, and NNPCL has already taken steps to go on appeal. The administration respects the rule of law, and nothing will be done outside it to resolve the matter. He sues for calm from all sides involved.”
