Goods destroyed as gas explodes in Lagos market
Several goods were destroyed on Saturday following a gas explosion at a market in Council Bus Stop, along Egbeda-Ikotun Road, in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.
A statement by the Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, Margaret Adeseye, said distress calls about the explosion were received by the agency around 2pm.
Adeseye explained that the fire which resulted from leakage of a gas cylinder in use at one of the shops led to the explosion that spread to several other shops.
It further disclosed that the fire was eventually put under control, adding that efforts were on to dampen down any remaining pockets of flames.
Firefighters from Ejigbo and Isolo stations were said to have tackled the fire.
“They were also joined by personnel from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), and the Nigerian Police Force from Ikotun Division to maintain law and order,” the statement added.
