There was pandemonium on the premises of Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, on Wednesday as some hoodlums stormed the facility and attempted forceful evacuation of a corpse earlier deposited in the morgue of the hospital.

The PUNCH reported that hoodlums had arrived at the facility on a large number motorcycles, and ordered that a corpse brought by them on Tuesday should be released without any documentation.

But when the personnel they approached, whose name could not be ascertained, told them they would have to fill some documents, they became infuriated.

The hoodlums were said to have threatened to cause chaos unless the corpse was released to them.

Many staff members of the hospital, relations with patients in the wards and others that had business on the premises when the drama was going on were said to have retreated from the area to avoid being caught in middle of the melee.

Some armed police operatives later arrived at the hospital and forced the hoodlums out of the premises.

When asked to comment on the incident, the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee of the Hospital, Dr Babatunde Afolabi, said, “The matter has been rested; they have done the coroner for the corpse. So, they have taken the body out for burial.”
