The Prelate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, His Eminence, Samuel Uche on Tuesday said N100m was paid to secure his freedom and that of others from abductors.

The cleric stated this in Lagos during a press conference, explaining that the money was taken to the abductors in five bags containing N20m each.

Recall that the Prelate and two others were abducted at the Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway on Sunday.

The others who were kidnapped with him were Arch Bishop of Owerri, Dennis Mark, and the prelate’s Chaplain.

The man of God and others were freed on Monday after the Methodist Church of Nigeria reportedly coughed out N100m ransom.

The Abia State Police Command spokesman, SP Godfrey Ogbonna, confirmed the release of the clergymen in Umuahia on Monday.

Ogbonna declined further comments on the development, saying, “All I can confirm to you now is that they have all been released.”
