Lagos seeks beautiful future, plans to invest more in children
The Lagos State Government says it is determine to secure an enviable future for children by continuously investing in them.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Mrs Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu stated this during an event organised by the ministry.
A statement quoted Oke-Osanyintolu, who spoke on ‘Investing in Our Future Means Investing in Our Children,’ as saying, “It is, however, collective responsibility of all stakeholders like parents, educators, and policy makers to invest in the holistic growth of these children thereby giving every child that space and opportunity to flourish and excel.”
“The Children’s Day Celebration serves as a platform to honour and celebrate our children’s extraordinary potentials and valuable contributions to the society. Through a wider range of activities, we hope to ignite their imagination to innovate, nurture their talents and encounter their personal growth thereby shaping a future of limitless possibilities and remarkable achievements.”
Commending school teachers for their dedication to the children, the permanent secretary also urged the children to bring out their voices, dreams and ideas to create a better future for themselves.
The Lagos State Youth Ambassador, Zainab Aderounmu, implored the children to take advantage of education by starting early and focusing pf where they were good, adding that every global player started early.
In his presentation, Child Protection Specialist and UNiCEF Nigeria Representative, Mr Dennis Onoise pointed out that children legal identity, ending violence against children and female genital mutilation were three issues that the government should put on the front burner to ensure that investment on the children were worthwhile.
