A 32-year-old prophet, Godson Nse Thompson, has been remanded at the Uyo Correctional Centre, Akwa Ibom State, for raping a 13-year-old girl sent to him for prayers.
The accused, who is a father of three, from Ikot Offiong Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of the state, was said to have taken the victim to his house in the guise of praying for her, only to end up raping her.
The victim, who is a senior secondary one student, said her in-law took her to the church on Information Drive, Uyo, for prayers on Friday, July 10, 2020.
She said, “My in-law took me to a church in Uyo by 6pm, saying he would pick me up by 7pm. When my in-law left the church, the prophet made a phone call to a tricyclist. He came and the prophet asked me to accompany him to pray for two other persons before mine.
“When we got there, he prayed for the people. Thereafter, we boarded another tricycle to another location. The prophet stepped down and entered a compound, came out and beckoned me to join him. He took me to a room, locked the door and told me to undress.”
The Judge, Justice Bassey Nkanang, adjourned the case to August 1, 2022.
