Police Arrest Wanted Man Who Shot Dead 11-Year-Old While Testing Locally Made Gun

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a man, Ogaga Kome, for allegedly killing an 11-year-old boy, Hossanna Merritt, in the state, while testing alocally made gun.

According to Punch, Kome allegedly shot Merrit to death at his residence in Ozoro community.

The 26-year-old went into hiding after perpetuating the crime, but members of the community alerted the Ozoro police station to the incident, prompting the police to declare the man wanted.

The police were said to have also solicited information from members of the public that would aid the arrest of the fleeing suspect.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta State command, DSP Bright Edafe, had on Thursday, August 25, said the police have launched a manhaunt for the man.

In a follow-up reaction, Edafe, said Kome’s relative handed him over to the police, adding that investigation into the case was ongoing.

He said, “On August 30, 2022, around 1.05pm, a well-meaning individual, who is also a relative of the suspect, brought him to the station.

“Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Ari Ali, has expressed appreciation for the efforts of residents in the state for their support in combating crime.

“The CP also advised members of the public to monitor their environment, and report any suspicious persons or movements to the police.”
