Tension has continued to rise Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The latest follows followed the accusations and counter-accusations between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Accord Party over the destruction of some campaign billboards across several parts of the state.

The Imole Campaign Council, coordinating the re-election bid of Governor Ademola Adeleke, accused suspected APC hoodlums of vandalising campaign billboards belonging to the governor’s political camp and the Accord Party.

According to the council, campaign materials were destroyed in Irewole, Ayedaade, Irepodun and Osogbo local government areas.

In a statement issued by the council’s spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, the group alleged that the attacks were carried out with the backing of compromised security personnel.

The council described the incidents as part of a broader pattern of politically motivated attacks allegedly targeted at opposition campaign structures ahead of the governorship election.

It warned that the destruction of campaign materials could threaten peaceful political participation and democratic engagement in the state.

The campaign organisation also called on security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, to investigate the incidents and prosecute those responsible.

The council further accused the APC of allegedly resorting to intimidation and destruction of opposition materials because it lacked “a convincing alternative agenda for Osun residents.”

Despite the controversy, the council maintained that Governor Adeleke remained focused on governance and service delivery.

Reacting to the allegations, the APC Governorship Campaign Council denied any involvement in the vandalism and dismissed the claims as politically motivated.

The Head of the Media and Publicity Committee of the APC campaign council, Oluremi Omowaiye, insisted that the accusations were false.

Omowaiye alleged that campaign materials belonging to the APC governorship candidate, Munirudeen Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, had also been repeatedly vandalised by suspected thugs allegedly linked to the ruling party.

He further accused the Adeleke administration and its allies of engaging in self-vandalism to attract public sympathy and divert attention from criticisms surrounding governance issues in the state.

According to him, the ruling administration was facing scrutiny over matters relating to ecological funds and local government allocations.

Omowaiye, however, said the APC would remain committed to its campaign activities and would not be distracted by what he described as propaganda ahead of the governorship election.
