The Lagos State Government has reiterated its determination to give the children in its Homes and rehabilitees in its centres proper care as their counterparts in the regular family settings.

The Commissioner, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende, made this known during his familiarisation tour to Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi Drug Rehabilitation Centre, Ajah, and Motherless Babies Home, Lekki.

Ogunlende said even though these persons have found themselves under the care of the state government, they must not be neglected.

He said, “These persons have found themselves in our Homes and Centres due to circumstances beyond them. As social workers, we must do everything within our power to ensure they are properly taken care of so that they can enjoy what their counterparts have access to in normal family setting. They must not be neglected.”

The Permanent Secretary, Mrs Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, implored the social workers in the Centres and Homes to be more professional in the way they handle the persons under their care.

She said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had promised to commit more resources to the social welfare of all Lagosians as part of its social Inclusion programme.
