It’s Official: Lagos increases sweepers’ salaries by 20 per cent
The Lagos State Government has increased the salaries of the sanitation workers in the state by 20 per cent.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Ibrahim Odumboni, made the announced, explaining that the move was in fulfilment of the promise made by Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Recall that at a recent rally organised by the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria in support of the presidential bid of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, as well as he re-election of Sanwo-Olu, the governor said his administration was going to increase sweepers’ salaries.
A statement on Wednesday by the Director, Public Affairs, LAWMA, Folasade Kadiri, said Odumboni told the sweepers of the new development during a meeting with them at LAWMA’s headquarters, Ijora-Olopa.
The LAWMA boss also said the workers would be provided with new work tools such as overalls, boots, personal protective equipment (PPE) to enable them to discharge their duties effectively, adding that the government was committed to providing the necessary support for the sweepers to carry out their roles efficiently.
He added, “You must ensure that you perform your civic responsibility by voting at the forthcoming elections. Spread the word in your neighborhood. The government is counting on you to make your voices heard through your votes.”
Odumboni eulogised Tinubu, who he said introduced the PSP and street sweeping schemes during his tenure as the Lagos State governor, adding that present APC presidential candidate laid the foundation for effective waste management, which the state is currently benefiting from.
In appreciation of the gesture by the state government, the sweepers, chanting “On your mandate we shall stand” and waving their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) in support of Tinubu’s presidential ambition and second term bid of Sanwo-Olu.
