The Supreme Court’s spokesman, Festus Akande, has said the fire incident that occurred on Monday will not affect the presidential election petition.

Akande made this known on Arise TV on Monday. According to him, the fire incident will not affect anything in the court.

Recall that theeditorial,ng had earlier reported that the fire had gutted a wing of the Supreme Court complex situated at the Three-Arm-Zone, Abuja.

Akande said, “The fire won’t affect anything in the court. This incident occurred in a chamber equipped with a computer and other equipment, as well as a functional library used by any justice occupying such chamber.

“The only thing that was affected were the books and computer equipment in the chamber. Even the books are replaceable.”

Akande also said no life was lost in the fire incident.

He added, “There was a fire that perhaps resulted from an electrical fault in the section of a justice’s chambers of the court. But the fire is not as serious as they make it appear on social media.

“From what is being said on social media, it is as if someone went there and set the whole Supreme Court on fire; it is not so.

He added that the fire outbreak originated from one of the chambers of the Justices and was put out with the use of fire extinguishers.

The fire incident started around 6am.
