Man on Elegushi beach to pray, drown in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday confirmed that divers were battling to recover the body of a 30-year-old man who allegedly drowned at Elegushi Beach on Lagos Island, where he had gone for prayers.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident, explaining that a report to the police indicated that the man, simply identified as Samuel, had gone to pray at the beach with his friends.

Hundeyin said that a man whose name was not mentioned reported the case to the Ilasan Police Division around 7.20am on Tuesday.

According to Hundeyin, the man’s report revealed that on Tuesday, 21 May, 2024, at midnight, he and three of his friends left Igbesan in Ogun to Elegushi Beach, Lekki for prayers.

The image maker said the report stated that during the prayer session, around 4am one of the friends, named Samuel, 30, allegedly drowned.

“Detectives of the division promptly visited the scene. Efforts are in progress by divers to recover the corpse,” he added.
