The operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have confirmed the death of three individuals related to a case of conspiracy, armed robbery, and culpable homicide.

The command’s spokesperson, Ahmed Wakil, who confirmed the incident in a WhatsApp chat with journalists on Tuesday, explained, “On August 18, 2024, at about 2200hrs, the police in Misau Local Government Area received information from a good samaritan who said that he saw a body lying down in a pool of blood in Anguwan Agwaluma in the outskirts of Misau town.

“On receiving the information, the DPO, Misau Police Division, led a team of detectives to the scene and discovered that the victim’s throat was stilted and cut with a knife. The detectives moved the body to the general hospital Misau where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.”

According to Wakil, the victim was later identified as one Muhammad Mamuda Baba Jibir of Sabon Layi in Misau town.

He said the 25-year-old was a commercial motorcycle operator popularly called Achaba, noting that the victim’s motorcycle was snatched and carted away by suspected armed robbers.

The PPRO confirmed that his remains were released to the family for burial according to Islamic injunction.

Ahmed Wakil also maintained that following the incident, “On the 19th of August 2024, Monday, two suspects were arrested by the Police with the said motorcycle along the Misau-Kari road, where they were lynched by an irate mob that burnt one of the bodies to ashes, but the motorcycle was recovered.

“The Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed, while reacting to the ugly incident, frowned at the actions of irate youths who, instead of taking the suspects to Police custody for proper investigations, mobbed the suspects that were arrested by the police.

Hee said, “They overpowered the Police, took them out of their possession, and killed them.

“This is barbaric and inimical to the laws governing our dear country.”

The police commissioner warned the residents of the state, saying the command under his stewardship would not tolerate or allow some recalcitrant in the society to continue to take the law into their hands by killing suspects who were duly and promptly arrested by the police.

He warned that nobody had any right to treat a suspect in such a barbaric manner, saying the suspects should be allowed to be duly investigated by the police or any other security agencies saddled with the responsibility to investigate and prosecute such suspects.”
