Abuja mob lynches touts who caused death of three

Enraged mob in the Mabushi area of the Federal Capital Territory on Wednesday lynched a tout and nearly killed two others after their actions caused death of a family of three.
It was said that a man, his wife and their son lost their lives after their vehicle rammed into one of the pillars of the Mabushi Bridge while fighting for the control of their vehicle with the tout.
The touts, popularly called Agberos, were said to have chased the man who was driving the vehicle.
Eyewitnesses said the family had purchased a brand-new refrigerator and were driving in a Toyota Highlander from the Berger area when three touts pursued them.
The suspects reportedly forced their way into the car and attempted to wrestle control of the steering wheel from the driver.
“In the struggle, the vehicle rammed into the bridge pillar and plunged into a drain. The impact of the crash killed all three occupants instantly,” an eyewitness said.
It was learnt that the scene descended into chaos as angry passersby attacked the touts.
The mob lynched one of them on the spot, while policemen from Mabushi Division rescued the other two, who sustained critical injuries and were taken to the National Hospital.
The bodies of the victims were later deposited in a mortuary.
The incident have drawn outrage at the growing menace of touts in the city.
The FCT Police Command has yet to comment on the incident.
