SPOTTED: Presidential aide shares AI-generated image of ‘Tinubu meeting Kagame’ in Paris

The viral images of President Bola Tinubu meeting with Paul Kagame, Rwanda’s president, were generated through artificial intelligence (AI).
Tinubu was reported to have met with Kagame on Sunday in Paris, France.
The Grok watermark could be seen in pictures of the meeting shared on Tinubu’s page on X on Sunday.
However, the reason for using an AI-generated image to depict the meeting remains unclear.
Grok is a generative artificial intelligence (generative AI) chatbot developed by xAI, Elon Musk’s company. It’s used for real-time search, generating images, and other functions.
“This afternoon, I had a private lunch with H. E. President Paul Kagame of Rwanda to discuss the current state of world affairs and advancing Africa in an ever-changing global landscape,” the president wrote on X.

Dada Olusegun, special assistant on new media to the president, also shared the same image.
Some netizens have criticised the presidential aide for sharing AI-generated images.
“Mr Dada Olusegun why are you using grok to generate a picture of was supposed to have happened? Is it incompetence or you are trying to tell us something,” a X user asked Olusegun.
On December 28, Tinubu departed Lagos for Europe as part of his end-of-year break.
