Bandits kill two, burn LG chairman’s vehicle during Kaduna burial

Suspected bandits on Monday killed two residents and set ablaze the official vehicle of the Chairman of Kajuru Local Government Area during an attack on Ugom Community in Kaduna State.
The assailants were said to have stormed Ehwakya area of the community on February 16, 2026, shooting sporadically and causing panic among residents.
Community sources confirmed that two persons, Bitrus David, 25, and Goma Idi, 40, were killed during the attack.
The gunmen were reported to have invaded Dogon-Noma area, where residents had gathered for the burial of one late Pa Usman Muhammed.
Eyewitnesses said mourners fled as the attackers opened fire near the burial venue, adding that during the incident, no fewer than four vehicles were burnt, including the official vehicle of the Kajuru Local Government Chairman, Dauda Madaki, and that of Hon. Usman Stingo, whose father was being buried.
In a statement, the Chairman of the Ugom Progressive Union, Onnusim Alhaji Ishaya, described the attack as tragic and heart-breaking.
He said, “The bandits attacked our community, shooting indiscriminately. Two of our young men have been confirmed dead. At the burial venue in Dogon-Noma, vehicles were burnt, including that of the council chairman.”
According to him, while some residents escaped, several others were still unaccounted for as of the time of filing this report.
He called on security agencies and government authorities to urgently intervene to prevent further attacks on the community.
