A legal battle has revealed a sprawling portfolio of properties owned by late governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala in Nigeria and overseas

The dispute is unfolding at an Oyo State High Court, where his first daughter, Oluwatoyin Alao Aderinto, has challenged the management of her father’s estate.

In suit I/443/2024, Aderinto is seeking court intervention over what she describes as irregularities in the handling of her father’s assets.

Named as defendants are Oluwakemi Alao-Akala and Olamide Alabi, both listed as executors and administrators.

Aderinto told the court that, as the first daughter, she holds both legal and equitable interests in the estate.

She alleged that several assets had already been sold without her consent, while others were at risk of being sold or tied into joint ventures.

She urged the court to issue an injunction to prevent further transactions that could compromise her rights.

Alao-Akala, who also served as deputy governor of Oyo State, passed away on January 12, 2022, in Ogbomoso at the age of 71. Since his death, disputes over the administration and distribution of his estate have persisted.
