The Delta State Police Command  Monday commenced activities marking the 2026 National Police Week.

Operatives started the week-long event with a sanitation and environmental clean-up exercise.

It also organised a medical outreach programme across the state.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, the clean-up exercise, which took place simultaneously across all the nine Area Commands of the Delta State Police Command, saw officers and men actively participate in the cleaning of public spaces, drainages, and surroundings within their respective jurisdictions.

“The initiative underscores the Command’s commitment to promoting a clean and healthy environment, as well as strengthening its relationship with members of the public at the grassroots level.

“In the same vein, a medical outreach programme was conducted at designated locations, including the police headquarters, where free medical services were provided to members of the public.

“The services included basic health checks, medical consultations, and distribution of essential medications, aimed at improving community well-being.

“The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi John Oyeniyi, led members of the command management team, DPOs, Tactical commanders, and other officers of the command to Anioma market for the sanitation exercise.

“The CP in his remarks stated that the activities are in line with the theme of this year’s celebration, “Community Partnership: Building Trust.” He noted that policing extends beyond law enforcement to include community service and meaningful engagement with the public.

“The CP encouraged residents of the state to emulate the police by maintaining cleanliness in their homes and surroundings, stressing that cleanliness is next to godliness and essential for healthy living,” a statement by the PPRO read.
