A civic advocacy group, Prayer and Support for the Armed Forces of Nigeria, has extended warm birthday greetings to former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo (retd.), praising his service and contributions to national security.

The message was conveyed through the group’s leader, Ambassador Mary Abayomi-Fatile, who commended Gambo’s legacy in strengthening Nigeria’s maritime defenses.

In a statement on Wednesday, Abayomi-Fatile described Gambo as a “patriot of uncommon dedication” whose tenure brought renewed vigor and strategic direction to the Nigerian Navy.

She noted that his leadership came at a critical time when the country faced complex maritime security challenges.

“Vice Admiral Gambo demonstrated exceptional courage and foresight in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial waters. His unwavering commitment to duty and country has left an indelible mark on the Armed Forces and the nation at large”, she said.

The group highlighted Gambo’s role in advancing anti-piracy operations and improving naval capabilities, noting that his efforts contributed significantly to the reduction of criminal activities in the Gulf of Guinea.

According to Abayomi-Fatile, these achievements have had lasting economic and security benefits for Nigeria.

“Under his watch, we witnessed a more proactive and responsive naval force,” she added.

“He not only defended our waters but also restored confidence in maritime trade and security, which is vital for national development.”

Abayomi-Fatile further praised Gambo’s leadership style, describing it as inclusive and visionary.

She emphasized that his ability to inspire officers and men of the Navy helped to foster unity and professionalism within the ranks.

“As a leader, he exemplified discipline, integrity, and compassion. He mentored many and built a culture of excellence that will continue to guide the Navy for years to come”, she said.

The group wished the retired naval chief good health, long life, and continued relevance in national affairs.

It also urged current and future military leaders to draw inspiration from his legacy of service and dedication to the nation.
