Omo-Agege reshapes ambition, opts for Delta Central Senate seat

Ebun Emmanuel – April 23, 2026
Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has announced his intention to contest the Delta Central senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Omo-Agege made the declaration in a statement issued on Wednesday, explaining that the decision followed wide consultations and careful reflection.
“Driven by patriotic duty, resourceful service, and a hopeful vision for our future, I hereby declare my intention to contest the Delta Central senatorial district seat in 2027 on the platform of the APC,” he said.
He described the move as a difficult but necessary step, noting that he had engaged extensively with family members, political leaders, and stakeholders across the eight local government areas in Delta Central before arriving at the decision.
“It is not a light decision. It is a response to the humbling calls by our electorate, constituents, professionals, and supporters that I return to the Senate to serve our common good and give unflinching support to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” he stated.
According to him, there is growing consensus across the district—including Ughelli North, Ughelli South, Udu, Okpe, Sapele, Uvwie, Ethiope East, and Ethiope West—for experienced representation at the National Assembly.
“There is clear consensus that the Urhobo Nation needs an experienced, smart, resourceful, purpose-driven, compassionate, and courageous voice in the Senate once again,” he added.
The former lawmaker also said his decision was guided by faith and a sense of duty to serve.
“Having sought the face of our Lord Jesus Christ in prayer, I have concluded that service to my people is a divine duty. I therefore humbly yield to their call,” he said.
Omo-Agege emphasised that his ambition is a collective one aimed at strengthening the influence of Delta Central at the national level, stressing that representation must be impactful and firmly defend the interests of the Urhobo people.
