17 die after vehicles collide, burst into flames on Kano road

No fewer than 17 persons were confirmed dead with three others injured in an auto crash in Yaura village along Wudil–Bauchi Road in the Albasu Local Government area of Kano State. 

The Kano Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed that the accident involved a Honda Accord with number plate, NSR 81 VW, and Volkswagen Sharon marked NNG 275 XA.

He said a motorist passing by informed FRSC patrol operatives around 2.20pm, adding that a rescue team was immediately mobilised to the scene of the incident.

Abdullahi pointed out that the crash occurred as a result of excessive speed and wrongful overtaking which led to loss of control, and head on collision with one of the vehicles bursting into fire immediately.

“The crash involved a total of 21 passengers in the two vehicles out of which 11 adult males, five adult females and one male child lost their lives, while three others that sustained serious injuries involved one adult male, one adult female and one male child”, he said.

The sector commander said the injured were taken to the Wudil General Hospital for treatment, while the corpses of the dead victims were handed over to their relatives.
