Sanwo-Olu urges corps members to network, build patriotism
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has enjoined the members of the National Youth Service Corps Corp deployed to the state to embrace good values in order to be able to contribute their qouta to building the nation.
He said they should embrace diligence, patriotism, courtesy and networking during the period of their orientation.
Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Commissioner, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Mr Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende, spoke at the official Opening/Swearing in Ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘B’Stream II Orientation Course held on at the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp,Iyana Ipaja,Agege, Lagos State.
He said, “This three-week orientation and the regimented life here in camp have been specifically designed to instill core values such as discipline, tolerance, perseverance, courtesy, diligence, networking and time consciousness.These values are crucial for your conduct during the orientation and necessary for nation building.”
Sanwo-Olu also implored the corp members to make the most of the orientation by networking, making new friends, building relationships, having mentorship and entrepreneurship under the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) initiative.
Earlier, NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Baderinwa Yetunde, advised the corp members to abide by the rules and regulations laid down for them while in the orientation camp, adding that all was aimed at making them good ambassadors of their fatherland wherever they find themselves.
She said, “You are expected to adapt quickly and participate in all camp activities.This programme is designed to instill in you the spirit of endurance, leadership, patience, perseverance and most importantly patriotism and discipline.”
The Lagos State Chief Judge, Kazeem Alogba, represented by Justice Kudirat Abike Jose, while administering the Oath of Allegiance on the corp members urged them to build hate-free egalitarian nation through service and humility and detest all forms of corruption.
Out of the 4,164 prospective corp members deployed to Lagos State, Mr Austin Obinna, who through volunteerism, installation of solar light and health program impacted people in Ikorodu and Epe; and Oguago Esther Amarachi who supported the underprivileged people in Epe by donation of sewing machine and school bags won the State Honours Award and Excellence Recognition and were also awarded the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira #500,000.00) each.
