DIG, 26 senior policemen lead battle ready cops for Ekiti poll

The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali, has deployed the Deputy Inspector- General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Mr Johnson Kokumo and four Assistant Inspector Generals of Police to Ekiti State ahead of the Saturday governorship election in the state.
Also sent to the state are three Commissioners of Police , five Deputy Commissioners of Police and 18 Assistant Commissioners of Police.
A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, on Sunday explained that Kokumo would coordinate and take charge of the state security before, during and after the governorship election.
Adejobi added that the others would assist the DIG ini the role given to him by the police boss.
He added, “The Senior Officers are to coordinate human and other operational deployments in the three Senatorial Districts, 16 Local Government Areas and 2, 445 polling units in Ekiti State.
“DIG Kokumo will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Operation Order evolved from the Election Security Threat Assessment, to ensure a peaceful and conducive environment devoid of violence and to guarantee law abiding citizens of secured environment to freely perform their civic responsibilities without molestation or intimidation.”
Earlier, Adejobi said the IG had approved the mobilisation and deployment of adequate police personnel, Armored Personnel Carriers, technical capabilities of the Police Air wing, the Force Marine, Mounted Troops, K-9 Section, and other operational assets for the election.
He called on the people of Ekiti State to come out en-masse on Saturday.
