How robbers violated Kogi branches of AccessBank, First Bank, by residents

Almost 12 hours after armed robbers attacked AccessBank and First Bank in Anyigba, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, residents are still taking about the incident that led to the death of two persons.

Recall that the robbers on Thursday raided the two banks separately in two groups. They also a police station and carted away a large sum of money from both the Access Bank and First Bank.

The operation, which was said to have lasted for between 30 and 40 minutes, reportedly happened around 5pm.

According to an eyewitnesses, the gunmen trailed a bullion van to one of the banks and disarmed its security details, while the other group attacked the second bank. Both groups were said to have stolen large amount of money.

The robbers were also said to have attacked the police station along Anyigba-Idah road.

“One of the eyewitnesses said, “There were indiscriminate shootings during the robbery. Everybody ran.

“A policeman, simply identified as Idoko, who was just been transferred to the station, was killed in the process.

“Also, a Hausa man, popularly known as Alagama, a petty trader at the roundabout in the town – a few metres to the scene of the incident – was hit by a stray bullet.”

It was gathered that operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps engaged the hoodlums in exchange of gunfire.

Some operatives of the Nigerian Navy stationed nearby also engaged the armed robbers in a gun battle.

Efforts to reach the state police command since the incident proved abortive.

Repeated calls made to the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, went unanswered.

Similarly, efforts to reach the Kogi State Security Adviser, Jerry Omadara, proved abortive as his line could not be reached.
