LASWA confirms one dead, one missing, 15 rescued in Lagos boat accident

One person has been confirmed dead, while one was missing and 15 others rescued after a boat capsized in the Ikoyi area of Lagos.
 
The accident reportedly occurred on Wednesday evening at Powerline, Ikoyi Link Bridge.
According to the Lagos State Waterways Authority, the crash was caused by a rise in tide.
 
It said that the boat captain rammed into a flooded high-tension pole which made the boat to capsize.
 
The agency confirmed that one person, a female died from the accident, while another make adult was missing, adding that 15 others were rescued unhurt.
 
LASWA said the deceased female was retrieved from the water while a search was on for the male.
 
A statement from the agency reads partly,  “The body of an adult female was retrieved from the water and subsequently transported from the incident scene to LASWA head office at Falomo before being confirmed dead by the LRU paramedics. 
 
“The adult female remains have been bagged, awaiting the arrival of the SEHMU officials.
 
The search for the adult male is ongoing,” it said.
