Media giant, Raymond Dokpesi, buried in Edo home

The remains of the Nigeria media mogul and politician, late Chief Raymond Dokpesi, have been laid to rest.

Dokpesi was buried on Thursday in Agenebode, in the Estako East Local Government Area of Edo State

Eminent personalities that converged on Agenebode town to bid him him final farewell included the National Security Adviser to President Bola Tinubu, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; the Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke and Deputy Governor of Edo state, Philip Shaibu.

Also in attendance were the immediate past governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa; the Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Ndidi Elumelu.

Others were a former Chief of Staff to President Goodluck Jonathan, Mike Ogiadomhe; Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), the Vice Chairman South-South of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Dan Orbih, representatives of the traditional institution and religious leaders.

The funeral mass was held at the open field of St Peters Secondary School, Agenebode, while the interment was held at his residence.

The Bishop of Auchi Diocese, Most Rev Gabriel Dunia in his homily described the Dokpesi as humility personified.

He said Dokpesi was also given to charity in his life time.

He said, “As the saying goes, charity covers a multitude of sin. He represented charity, he repented and came back to represent with his creator. We must return to God, we must use this occasion whoever we are to return to God. We must continue his charity work because the dead can no longer do charity because he said that even in his death, he will continue to do charity through his media.”I

In his remarks, Edo State Deputy Governor, Shaibu, said the late Dokpesi was a fearless politician who was not afraid to “speak truth to power.”

 Be said, “Today in Nigeria and the African continent, you cannot talk of the media without mentioning Dokpesi.”
