Police nab suspected thieves, fraudsters in Delta

The Delta State Police Command says it has arrested some suspects constituting threat to the security of the state.

The spokesman for state command, DSP Bright Edafe in a statement explained that on October 27, 2023, operatives attached the command’s Raider Squad, arrested Ofemu Obus (23) and Henry Ekpu (28).

He said, “The suspects were alleged to specialise in defrauding unsuspecting POS operators by generating fake alerts which they use to deceives their victims and defraud them of their money. Suspects are in custody and investigation is ongoing.”

The Police Public Relations Officer added that in October 26, 2022, operatives of the command’s Dragon patrol teams 29 and 26, led by an Assistant Superintendent of Police, were on stop-and-search duty along Warri-Sapele Road in the Okwuvo Okpe Local Government Area.

He said, “They intercepted a Daylong motorcycle with number plate, Delta- UGH 353 VQ carrying two male occupants; the policemen conducted a search on them during which one Iphone, one Infinix phone, one Nokia torch phone were found.

“While the search was being conducted, the owners of the phones started calling, and they stated that they were at Sapele and Oghara respectively. The two suspects were later identified as John Francis, age 26, of Uru-Ughelli Street Agbarho; and Godsent Orogun, age 25 of Ovwiagba. Suspects are in custody while Investigation is ongoing.”

Edafe also said the men of the command, acting on intelligence report about an armed robbery syndicate operating around Awka-Enugu highway, but hibernate in Asaba, mobilised to the Oduke-Okwe area of Asaba where they intercepted the suspects who were in a Toyota Sienna SUV marked, ASB 781 YF.

“Upon sighting the police, the men abandoned the vehicle and mixed with the crowd at a market in the area. Upon search of the vehicle, one locally-made pistol, and a Samsung phone was recovered beneath the driver’s seat. Investigation is ongoing,” Edafe added.
