Suspected herdsmen attack Benue community, 16 feared killed

Suspected herdsmen have launched a new attack on Wandor community in Gwer-East local government area of Benue State.

The incident which was said to have occurred in the early hours of Friday, March 8, claimed lives of sixteen persons.

Other areas torched by the attack included Mbaikyor, Mbalom council ward in Gwer-East Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered the fresh attack was second to be launched in the community in recent time.

According to an eye witness, numbed Ujam Amase, the armed herdsmen stormed Mbalom around 10pm and opened fire on residents.

Amase also said the invaders also set houses ablaze.

According to him, property worth millions of naira including food stuff were destroyed.

He said: “They killed children and women after shooting them, they used long knife and cut their bodies into pieces like meat” said Amase who escaped from the scene of the attack.

The names of 16 corpse recovered are Peter Tion, Nyityo Kyoon, Iorfa Ukombor,
Doopinen Awua, Tyoshaa Mkaanem and Asan Ate.

Others are Asough Ate, Terzungwe Asoo Ate, MWO Mbatsavbun Gbatar (rtd), John Ndahagh Tyohemba, Tertsea Ukombor, Akuma Kpenge, Abume Kpenge, Igba Byuan, Master Ter Byuan Terzungwe Aulugh and little boy whose name is not known yet.

As at the time of filing press the report, inhabitants of the area were seen fleeing in their numbers from the the affected settlements for fear of unknown.
