Some gunmen have kidnapped an official of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Popoola Olasupo, while on his way to his duty post.

Olasupo was said to have been kidnapped around 6.30 am on Sunday in the Eledumare-Fidiwo end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

A source from TRACE, who did not want his name in print due to the sensitive nature of the matter, confirmed the abduction.

It was further gathered that policemen and some volunteers were on the trail of the gunmen.

The source said the gunmen, who emerged from the bush, opened fire on a commercial bus in which the official was travelling, adding that he was the only one abducted.

Efforts to get the reaction of the spokesperson for TRACE, Babatunde Akinbiyi, were unsuccessful.

Akinbiyi did not answer the calls made to his mobile and had not responded to a text message sent to him.

When contacted, however, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.

“Our anti-kidnapping squad is already after them. We are combing the forest and we know that they will all be arrested.

“Ogun State is not a ground for criminals to settle. It is either they leave or we smoke them out of this state,” Oyeyemi said.
